On August 16, 2024, the Institute for Data Innovation and Science (IDIS) at Seoul National University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the International Centre for Mathematical Sciences (ICMS) to foster research collaboration in data science and mathematics. This agreement aims to enhance cooperation between the two institutions by fostering innovation in data-driven technologies through various academic exchanges, including joint research projects, workshops, and seminars.

Through this MoU, IDIS and ICMS plan to conduct joint research in the fields of data science and artificial intelligence (AI), share research materials and information, and collaboratively pursue academic and scientific activities. Notably, there will be a focus on supporting women scientists and early-career researchers, including active mentoring and networking programs for faculty, researchers, and students.

This collaboration represents an important milestone for both institutions as they work towards achieving their academic goals and advancing research in data science and mathematics. ICMS is a member of ERCOM (European Research Centres on Mathematics), and IDIS anticipates that this agreement will expand research exchanges with European research institutions.

Director Jung Sungkyu of IDIS and Director Kim Minhyong of ICMS signed an agreement that is valid for five years and may be extended by mutual consent.
