On June 17, 2024, the Institute for Data Innovation and Science (IDIS) at Seoul National University formalized a partnership by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Data Science and AI Innovation Research Promotion Center (DS Center) at Shiga University to focus on joint research initiatives in data science and artificial intelligence (AI).
Shiga University is recognized for establishing Japan's first research center dedicated to data science education. In April 2022, it restructured to create the DS Center, which has become a leading institute for data science research in Japan. Through this MoU, IDIS aims to foster a strategic partnership with the DS Center, facilitating the exchange of cutting-edge knowledge on topics such as machine learning, optimization, and other foundational areas of data science and AI. This collaboration is expected to significantly advance research in the sciences.
As Director Ryoji Fukaya of the DS Center's vision of "Changing the World with Data Science" resonates deeply with Director Jung Sung-kyu of IDIS, it raises expectations for the synergy of collaboration between the two institutions. They believe this partnership will facilitate the establishment of a global research environment capable of addressing complex societal challenges through innovative data science solutions and exploring new research frontiers together.
